SIDMAR DISAS Sidmar Disas is the trade name for Disa cultivars bred by Sid and Marlene Cywes of Cape Town, South Africa. Since the early eighties, Sid and Marlene have been working on the genus Disa, improving flower shape, size and position. This has resulted in a series of Disa hybrids, which were awarded at various international exhibitions. ALBA laboratory is very pleased to announce a close co-operation with Sidmar Disas in commercialising this unique orchid. From the end of 2003 we will have large volumes of selected cut flower hybrid available using tissue culture techniques. We believe that with modern cultivation techniques and the current knowledge about the plant requirements, any dedicated grower will be able to grow these plants to their full potential. This means that the market potential for this exclusive flower can be developed. The first commercial cultivation of the famous Sidmar Disas in South Africa is expected to produce flowers late 2003. For the coming growing season (2004) we have plant material available of the following cut flower cultivars: fps* Cape Salmon salmon small/ medium sized 8-14 Kalahari Sunset biscuit medium sized 5-8 Karoo Dawn peach medium sized 5-9 Rosy Face pink medium sized 7-13 *fps = flowers per stem These protected varieties are available to commercial growers only, in amounts of 5.000 plants, or more, per variety. We do require a contract for cut flower cultivation (non-propagation contract). Prices and time of delivery on application. Disa orchids are also very suitable for cultivation as pot plants. Sidmar Disas has selected several hybrids for this purpose. Please do not hesitate to contact us on availability of these varieties for the commercial pot plant grower. To interested growers world-wide, Sidmar Disas has made small amounts of plant material of 30 selected crosses available. Please refer to our list of the selections for the 2003 season. Prices will vary per selection (per jar of approximately 12 rooted plants): A = US$ 15,00 B = US$ 17,50 C = US$ 20,00 D = US$ 25,00 These prices exclude administration and transport costs.
